Social Security Administration Wage Reporting App
Mobile App
SSA Wage Reporting App
Date
April 2023
Role
Sr. UX/UI Designer
The SSA Wage Reporting App, also known as the SSI Mobile Wage Reporting app, is a mobile application that allows certain recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, their representative payees, spouses, parents, and sponsors to report their monthly wages to the Social Security Administration (SSA). It provides a convenient way to report wages from pay stubs, potentially avoiding the need to contact the SSA office directly.
At the Social Security Administration (SSA), I served as the Lead UX/UI Designer for the Mobile Wage Reporting App, a tool enabling beneficiaries to securely report monthly wages. I led the end-to-end redesign of the app for both Android and iOS platforms, tailoring the user experience to each environment while ensuring consistency and accessibility across devices.
I began with in-depth user research—conducting interviews, usability testing, and both qualitative and quantitative analysis—to uncover key friction points. The insights informed a streamlined interface and task flow that significantly improved user satisfaction, reduced input errors, and simplified the reporting process.
I collaborated cross-functionally with product stakeholders, developers, and compliance teams to ensure the solution was scalable, intuitive, and met Section 508 accessibility standards. Using Azure DevOps (ADO), I tracked refinements, managed design QA, and ensured successful sprint delivery from wireframes to launch.
Key accomplishments:
• Designed two native mobile app experiences for Android and iOS
• Conducted discovery and usability research to inform UX decisions
• Created user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and design documentation
• Ensured full 508 accessibility compliance across both platforms
• Partnered with front-end and back-end teams to support agile delivery
• Increased user task completion rate and reduced input-related errors
