TOPMed Portal (NHLBI) | UX Lead – Westat
While at Westat, I led the end-to-end UX redesign of the TOPMed (Trans-Omics for Precision Medicine) web portal for the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), a critical NIH initiative.
Conducted a comprehensive heuristic evaluation of the legacy portal to identify usability issues, accessibility gaps, and structural inefficiencies
Rebuilt the Information Architecture (IA) to streamline access to research datasets, publications, and project updates for internal and external users
Created detailed UX wireframes and mid-fidelity UI mockups to illustrate improved user flows, enhanced content clarity, and intuitive navigation
Collaborated closely with the accessibility compliance team to ensure WCAG and 508 standards were met throughout the design lifecycle
Facilitated stakeholder interviews across NIH departments to uncover user pain points, gather requirements, and align the redesign with long-term program objectives
Partnered with front-end developers to support implementation through annotated design specs and agile design reviews
Launched an internal email marketing campaign to announce the redesigned portal and educate researchers and internal teams on key improvements and new features
