Role
Lead Sr. UX Designer of Customer Experience
At the Department of Justice (DOJ), I led UX efforts on the JustGrants platform, a $115M enterprise grant management system developed in partnership with General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT). The goal was to modernize how the DOJ manages its $4.7B in annual grants across the Office of Justice Programs (OJP), the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), and the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office).
My work began with a comprehensive heuristic evaluation of the legacy system to identify usability gaps and inefficiencies. I conducted stakeholder interviews, developed user personas, and mapped end-to-end user journeys to clarify workflow challenges and user needs. Working within Agile teams, I translated these insights into structured wireframes and experience flows, collaborating directly with front-end and back-end engineers throughout the build process.
To ensure accessibility and usability for a diverse national user base, I incorporated 508/WCAG compliance standards early in the UX process. I also partnered with content strategists and policy experts to ensure that complex legal processes were translated into intuitive digital interfaces.
Key accomplishments:
Defined and delivered UX strategy for a mission-critical $115M DOJ grant management system
Conducted extensive research across multiple DOJ offices and stakeholder groups
Created scalable design solutions to support hundreds of agencies and grantees nationwide
Led wireframe development, UI recommendations, and design QA across multi-agency modules
Ensured full 508 compliance and advocated for inclusive design standards
Collaborated closely with product managers, engineering leads, and federal policy stakeholders
This work not only streamlined internal workflows and external grant submissions, but also elevated the DOJ's digital service standards for thousands of users across the country.
